First FT101ZD - no WARC bands, no AM or FM provisions, freq display was just
that - a display, not a true counter - it required calibration for band or
mode changes, like the old YC601 external readouts for the FT101B/E series
FT101ZD MK2 - added AM as standard, WARC bands (if I recall correctly)
FT101ZD MK3 - added the ability of adding an option board for AM OR FM, but
not both at the same time, WARC bands, and a true frequency counter which
did not require calibration when changing bands or modes. Also had a number
of rx improvements. Also, the knobs had silver-accented rings whereas the
first two ZDs had all grey knobs. Also was able to add a very sophisticated
external digital display VFO which had memories and direct freq entry,
almost like an outboard synthesizer to replace the standard VFO (FV101DM or
something like that).The earlier units (MK1 + 2) only allowed the FV-101Z
analog external VFO to be used.
Its been a long time, so I may have forgotten an item or two, but that
pretty much sums it up.
