Perhaps when both Yaesu and Icom get this out of their systems they will
both come up with improved models in the 3000 - 4500 range that many
hams could actually afford. In Icom's case a model with variable
roofing filters would be nice. In Yaesu's case, a model with a good IF
DSP would be welcome.
I probably don't know what I'm talking about but $10,000 to $14,000
radios obviously aren't aimed at hams. Even if there are government and
corporate customers waiting, I wonder how many of these will actually
sell. So many users in those sectors have other needs these radios
don't seem able to fill, starting with a black box chassis with no knobs
and a remote computer interface. And not too many users in those fields
have any need for features like CW for one thing. And unless they can
transmit from 2.0 Mhz continuously to 25 Mhz - - forget it.
I see the main benefit to hams as offering the possibility of trickle
down technology in the reasonable future.

They couldn't fit another knob on that front panel if they used a
shoehorn!
Unbelieveable.
