Mostly I'd call it ugly.

Looks like the primary design goal was to see how many knobs and buttons
could be plastered on the front. 

I'd suspect that this is more a triumph of marketing over engineering. How
many of those many dozens and dozens of controls are likely to ever be used
in the course 
of a QSO?  How many are likely to be fully understood the owners?

Buy a 2K radio and put the balance of the money Yaesu wants for this
monstrosity into antennas, and you'd likely be way ahead of the game.
