[Yaesu] FT-416 Problem -- Battery Connection

Hello Everyone,

I have an FT-416 that is giving me its first problem ever.  The unit will
simply not turn on with a charged battery.  I think I have narrowed the
problem down to the battery contacts, as the unit works just fine when I
connect 12-volts to the "DC in" found elsewhere on the radio.

I already tried cleaning the contacts.  I also tried multiple battery packs,
and the problem still exists, yet the packs power my FT-530 just fine (the
530 accepts the same battery as the 416).

I don't have a schematic for this radio -- how should I go about this?
Either it is the pins not making connection to the battery pack themselves,
or it is something internal.  If it is something internal, I'll need a bit
of guidance as to what to check next.
