Take a look at the voltage. Most of these radios like to have the voltage 
on the HIGH side. I was running 12.5 volts on my 990 and was getting the 
same type of reports. When I bumped it up to 13.8 the problem went away. I 
now have no problems with ANY of my radios since the voltage was pushed up.

The problem sounded like I had a bad ground and was getting feedback (rf) 
into the radio. I even ran a new ground and that didn't do a thing. It was 
all in the voltage...
