[Yaesu] Mark V Field: AGC Getting Swamped

Recently acquired a Mark V Field and still learning my way around the radio. Have used Icom gear for many years, and finding Yaesu's way of doing things a bit awkward, but will learn...

Mark V Field seems like a nice rig. However, I have noticed on SSB if there is a strong signal (say S9) about 5 Kcs up the band it will pump the AGC like crazy...even desensing the radio. I've tried the VRF and IDBT which have helped, and set the AGC to Fast...but the problem continues. If the other station was 2 or maybe 3 Kcs up I would understand, but 5Kcs seems rather wide.

On several occasions I have done an A/B test with my Icom 756 Pro using the same antenna. The Pro is not affected at all.

Any thoughts on this? Suggestions? Plan on installing pair of 2.0 SSB filters, but not sure that will help.

thanks,

Harry WE1X
