[Yaesu] 897 battery charging (FNB 78)

I just got my new 897 and two FNB 78's.  I also bought W4RT's charger 
for them.  I did an initial charge and found that one of the batteries 
only took about an hour to indicate full charge (and the voltage 
indicator on the 897 said it was up at about 15 volts to start, went 
down in a few minutes to about 14 volts....)   Anyone with experience 
initially charging the FNB 78, is this about right?  Would the battery 
have some charge on it - or should I be watching for below normal 
capacity?  I do not have much experience with NiMh batteries (yet!)
