I have given up replacing dial lamps ages ago. High brightness, clear
(colourless) LED's come in all shapes and sizes and you are likely to find
an exact physical replacement for your lamp. LED's with built-in resistors
are avilable as pilot lamps and will not be suitable for dial lamp
replacement.
Measure the voltage at your lamp, calculate the dropping resistor and
install the LED. You will have done the job for the last time.

I am faced with unenviable task of replacing the dial lamps (and the
battery while I'm in there). The service manual says they are T-3 10v
60ma. Are there LED substitutes (with built in dropping resistor) that
can be used? Either way, getting the lamps in here in rural Manitoba may
be a challenge.
