I picked up a late model FT100D (serial number 2M####
range) this past May, and it seems to have a noisy
receiver on a couple bands. The noise is around S5 or
so on 15 meters, and about that on 12 also. I figured
that it was some sort of local interference or line
noise when it appeared, and started looking around for
what was causing it.
I had a bit of a shock today then when I borrowed a
friend's FT100D and hooked it up in my shack. The
noise on 15 was greatly reduced-like S1 or so. This
was with the same antenna, power supply and power cord
that I have been using with my FT100D. The only
difference in the setup was the radio. Settings on
the radio were set the same-IPO off, AGC fast, ATT
off, DSP NR on. It seems like my radio was just
getting static that the other one wasn't.
I have checked for internal noise by disconnecting the
antenna on my FT100D, and it doesn't seem to be above
what would be expected. And it is the same on 15
meters as other bands. It just seems like my radio is
getting a bunch of noise on 15 that other radios
aren't getting. I also hooked up an Icom 706 to my
same antenna and PS, and it wasn't showing any unusual
noise either.
So, what is wrong with my radio? Will call Yaesu tech
support on monday, but also hoping that the group can
help me before that.
