[Yaesu] FT-817 won't detect internal battery

Anyone out there familiar with the 817?  I've gone inside to make a 
simple mod to protect the PA (reverse phase from driver to PA stage, 
just reversing output of a balun).

I forgot to disconnect the battery.  Since the battery voltage is 
always present at the PA, I caused a momentary short while soldering.  
The radio works normally on external power, everything seems fine.  
However, the rig won't power up from the internal battery.

Just curious if anyone has encountered this problem, or if anyone is 
familiar with the battery detect circuit (and its location and traces 
on the boards).  My guess is that something simple has failed and I 
just need to locate it.  Well, if I'm lucky :-)
