[Yaesu] ft-101e

hi guys, i have a query and hope you can help. i just purchased a =
beautiful ft-101e. when i opened the top  i discovered a 9 volt battery =
Velcro atop the vfo gear housing. one side goes directly to ground. the =
rig came with the yc-601. anyone ever seen anything like this?  what =
