[Yaesu] New VX-7R owner with questions

I have just purchased a VX-7R which should be here by
the end of the week, and am really looking forward to
getting it up and going.  I hope that I like it as
much as the VX-5R which it is replacing.  I really
like the idea of dual receive and waterproofing.

I am interested in any comments that list members
might have about the VX-7R, good or bad, and have a
couple of questions:

1. I heard that there is a software mod to increase
the power on 222 mhz to 1.5 watts.  Is this true?  If
so, how is it done, and has anyone noticed any ill
effects from it?

2. It seems that many of the early models suffered
from low transmit audio.  Has this been fixed?  Is
there a way to fix it?  I really don't want to poke a
hole in the mic membrane, because then it isn't
waterproof anymore.  I am hoping for a less drastic
fix, if necessary.
