This is a copy of an email I sent to Ms. K. Abernathy at the FCC re the
proposed BPL system and its potential for interference.

Dick

Dear Ms. Abernathy:

I am an electronics engineer retired from Lockheed Martin, where I specialized
in the prevention, detection and elimination of electromagnetic interference (EMI).

The idea of using BPL in this country poses a severe threat to users of the radio
spectrum from 2 MHz to well beyond the proposed upper BPL frequency of 80 MHz.

Harmonics of the BPL signal will appear well into the spectrum portions used by
TV broadcast, medical telemetry, and even some cellular telephone service
providers. The interference will also cause serious interference to military
long range communications, including voice, teletype and data, which are essential

Please be advised that, as an engineer who understands the problems raised by
electromagnetic interference, I am opposed to the proposed BPL system.

Regards,

Dick Ertman, Manager (retired)
