Well, I guess my original msg. yesterday did not go through. So,
here it is again. Please bear with me, it's a long one.
*I think* this is what happened to start things off: I was messing
around behind the shelf with the radio when it started beeping.
About once every 7 seconds or so. The screen was changing
arbitrarily, like it was in some autopilot mode.
I looked and discovered that the neg cord had become disconnected
from the power supply. I turned the radio off and secured the cord.
Turned the radio back on and it continued do insane things:
flipping to 50.000.42
VFO B screen flashing PLAY then 7.000.00
VFO A 49.998.30 with the 4 flashing
then steady with VFO B still doing its thing
RX light on VFO A would go out while coming on at VFO B
The notch light lit on its own
no band buttons would work (sometimes if I push one it would go the
right band, but then in a few seconds go back to 50.000.42
the split indicator would come on on the display
And so on.
I tried the first two resets described in the back of the manual to
no avail.
I was so discouraged I left the shack, with the radio on.
About 25 minutes latter I came back and was aware that there was no
beeping. I looked and the radio looked right. After thought and
screwing up my courage I pressed a mode button. It worked. I waited
a minute, took another breath and pushed a band button. It also
worked.
I went ahead and made a QSO on 80M -- all was perfectly fine.
I left the radio on for another couple of hours and when I turned it
off, it was still behaving properly.
This morning I turned it on, the last frequency/band that I had
operated on appeared, and then the same mess began all over again.
Everything was properly connected.
Its been about 10 minutes now and the beeping has stopped, and the
radio is sitting at 49.998.30.
What in heaven's name is going on??
Any help would be desparately welcomed. I was so very happy with
this radio, and of course, because I was so happy with it, I am
doubly depressed about this. Has anyone had any experience with
this?
Thanks so much.
