[Yaesu] Quick Question

The cw sidetone volume is an internal control in the FT-990,
I am not aware that this is a problem, having used it for 7
or 8 year the way I set it originally.

The FT-990 does not clip the first element noticeably,
it has a clean and quiet break in monitoring. QSK
(there is a relay operating, but I have never heard it
unless I put my ear to the box. (not my normal operating
position)
If while sending, my local noise level comes up to the
bother level, one button turns on the transmitter until
released. I have a trap for the 27 mHz band (which is
VERY bad here) pressing the [RX ANT] button places it
in the input of the receiver ONLY. (the CB splatter
can ruin 15 meters without it)
99 memories, good notch and digital audio high pass
and low pass filters can remove all other signals.
I can enter any frequency with the key pad, dual
VFO's all the modern stuff. One receiver, one hundred
watts out, I NEVER put out more than 45 Watts!
I bought it for cw and I am totally pleased.

I was talking with two gents from Yaesu from Cal.
before I bought it, they both told me they always started
cw contests with their FT-1000 and they always finished
(every one) with their FT-990, it is just nicer to operate.
It is the sleeper of the cw transceivers.
(it was designed after the FT-1000 and it has lower
harmonic emissions that the FT-1000)

The FT-990 has about the best preamp made, the best of it's
time. There is no way to turn it off, there is no reason to.
The RF gain control changes an attenuator before the pre-amp,
this gives it outstanding front end overload protection.
(my only complaint is poor sensitivity below 0.5 mHz)

>>Additionally it has a great internal antenna tuner and

>>9 Hz on 20 meters and 3 Hz on 10 meters, less below 20 m.)
