[Yaesu] Quick Question

Another poster that can't read obviously. Where did I say that I want
everything given to me? I made mention of the fact that when the CW
requirement is dropped I will enjoy it, but I never argued that I need it
now.

You think I'm one of the instant gratification crowd?? Yeah right, you know
how many years I spent eating crap cause I couldn't afford groceries, you
know how many years I spent wanting a decent roof over my head, do you know
how many times I turned down help from my family and my wife's family
because I wanted to make it on our own?? Do you think im a gimme person??
How the hell do you know what I went through, go back and take a ride in my
shoes a few years ago when I didn't know how to pay for the next meal, or
how to put gas in our car to get to work, which by the way was nearly an
hour commute one way, but then again I didn't have to walk uphill both ways
in snow up to my ears so you don't realize what I went through. It took me
3 years to pay off two years of vocational school to put me in the position
I am now, I have always enjoyed working with computers, and I built my first
one in the early teen years when a 500MB hard drive was state of the art,
and a 486 at 40MHz was the coolest thing around, 30 pin sims cost a fortune,
and the hard drives were still nearly a dollar a meg, that's how long I have
been into computers, I would have been into the earlier but I was only born
in 1977.

If you think I'm part of the gimme crowd your sadly mistaken, and I have the
physical ailments to prove it. I may only be 26 years old, but my doctor
calls me a young retiree. I can argue like you guys on 3860 every night,
how about this, I have Arthritis in both shoulders, one elbow, one knee, and
both hands cause troubles when working with small parts, but I still work
hard at what I do, I have 80% hearing loss on the left side, and nearly 50%
hearing loss on the right and will require hearing aids soon, and before
anyone says a thing its not because of loud music during the teenage years,
its from loud machinery working on the farm up until I moved off the farm
when I got married, we couldn't afford regular doctors visits and hearing
protection, we were just hired hands, I also wear glasses, and if not for
the modern plastics used in the lenses they would be thicker than the bottom
of coke bottles, some of my early pairs as a child were made from glass and
very heavy, although better materials were available my family couldn't
afford it, sounds like I qualify for the anal incontinence net, at least I
can argue some medical problems to keep up with the old farts. I also quit
smoking two years back when my son was born for his health, you think that
didn't take some dedication??

If I want to do something I can set my mind to it, but I don't want to do
CW. I enjoy satellites, VHF, UHF, 6m and 2m SSB are my favorites, and I
also want to expand with some new gear for other satellite and moonbounce
ops when I find the time and money to do it. I had to save FIVE years to
buy the current rig in my shack, an FT-847 with all the accessories, who
else can honestly say that they had to work that long to buy ONE radio?? I
also want HF for SSB use, and perhaps digital, I started using PSK and SSTV
on 6m this year and it was a blast with all the southern stations on the
air, and the newly available digital voice on HF looks interesting, although
still quite new that's what this hobby is about, the experimentation and
expansion of the current and future technologies. I hardly doubt that CW is
still in development anymore, every other use for it seems to have moved
onto something else, the government obviously thought it was too old to
continue using.

So if you want to bark up a tree take it somewhere else, im not your typical
youngster, and im not about to be insulted and told that I don't know
anything, or that I'm not a real ham cause I choose not to use CW. I
apologize for venting, but the offline messages that I have been receiving
since commenting on the original post have been rather rude and absurd, if
anyone needs to do some growing up its the ones that emailed me directly
only to bicker about how good the code is. To the others that sent words of
support I now know who the real hams are on this reflector. How can anyone
call himself a ham and look down upon his peers?

73,

Scott, KB0NLY

You are another example of youth today instant gratification and dont want
to work for it If u want to do something you will find the time If u
have to drive put a tape in and listen to the code I have done the
Railroad code when I was 8 and international since I was 15 It is not hard
but the determination to do something. I recently went on a 2 year diet and
lost 118 lbs It is determination to do something you wnat to do no matter
what In ham radio there are times when cw is it and nothing else will do
it even on 6 meters worked 9A and LZ this summer but only cw would do it
as the signals were low. When I took the code test it was before an FCC
examiner at 20 wpm and you had to have 1 minute of perfect copy non of this
easy stuff you do now. Today every one wants it easy and not to work for
it For sum reason this country wants to dumber down everything Grow up
or get out
