[Yaesu] Quick Question

The Computer Doctor [email protected]

I am The Computer Doctor, self-employed, worked hard to get where I am, and
I feel CW is something I will never use for many reasons. The main reason
is I like to talk, not beep, second is hearing loss problems that kept me
from being a General for years now. I even passed the General Written a few
times, but the CSCE expired before passing the CW test. Sure, there is ways
around the hearing problems, but if I have to put that much more time into
it I would just rather set aside this hobby until the FCC gets with the
program and eliminates the CW test. Its not that I don't enjoy being a
Tech, I nearly have my WAS on 6, which was no small feat being that I barely
get time to turn on the radio unless I'm mobile on the way to a in-home
service call, and then I only have 2m in the mobile and limited users to
chat with out here in the less-ham populated area. I work satellites, and
would like to add AO-40 now that UO-14 is out of the picture, just haven't
had the time to put the setup together to work it, and with winter here I
don't think I will have enough time for antenna work or messing around at
the work bench any time soon, this is my busy time of the year, unlike other
professions, people seem to spend more time indoors with their computers in
the winter, and that keeps me busy.

It has taken me many many hours to get where I am, and it takes many hours
per week to not only do my job but to stay up to date with all the changes
in technology. On average, I only get a day per week to enjoy other
activities, and most of that time is spent with my son and wife, which makes
CW the most ridiculous thing to spend time on. I have a lot more important
things to accomplish on a daily basis, and I never said gimme gimme, so give
up on that crap please. You pro-code types think that no one is equal, well
I say oh well, the old timers are dying fast. I already lost two local hams
that I used to enjoy chatting with, and they didn't seem to mind the
no-codes. It just gets my feathers ruffled, since I am much more mature
than others that have emailed me directly off-list I will not repeat or post
the bad ones, to the ones that emailed me off list to agree with CW's demise
I say Thank You.

Enough of this CW dribble, this is the Yaesu reflector, not the bitch and
moan about CW reflector.

Scott, KB0NLY

Scott,
The guys certainly have left you off easy. Learning the code doesn't require
total and utter commitment, but like anything of real value, it does require
some level of commitment. I notice you call yourself The Computer Doctor.
Bet
you didn't learn what you know in a weekend, if you are any good at that at
all, it has taken many hours, many weeks, many months and more even to stay
up to speed. I know a little of this from experience and find that computer
work is tremendously time consuming. Also how can you say that you probably
will never use the code? That's like saying I don't like spinich, but I have
never eaten it. Your post seemed to have a juvenile and unrealistic tone
that
I just couldn't let pass. I apolgize in advance for any offense. (Nine
months
from Tech Plus to Extra (20wpm) but I'm a little slow, a visual learner.)
