The definition of the Amateur Radio Service is
SERVICE, not a hobby! Yes, it can serve as one's
hobby but by definition of the FCC it is a service!
You are "lucky" in the fact that a number of years ago
the FCC dropped the CW requirement for the Technician
test. In years past, everyone had to learn the
International Morse code at 5 words per minute for the
Novice and Technician Class, at 13 words per minute
for the General and Advanced Class, and 20 words per
minute for the Extra Class!
Although you don't believe that you will ever use CW,
you might just be surprised. Once you learn to use
the code it becomes like a second language and you can
communicate very easily with it. I know plenty of
people who swore that they would never use CW that
operate that particular mode almost all of the time!

This is a hobby, and I just see being totally and
utterly committed to learning CW just to upgrade my
license, especially when chances are that I will never
use it again after the test.
