[Yaesu] FRG-8800 PLL problems. Help needed!

My FRG 8800 receiver jumps frequency by 500 Hz when going from *.4 to
*.5 KHz. on the display ( where * is any KHz. setting ) 

I just wonder whether this is a common problem, and whether there is any
one out there, with a working knowledge of this RX, who could help me. 

I have the service manual, but am finding it difficult to understand, as
the explanation of how it works, is rather limited.

Are there any websites around with detailed technical information about
this RX, or other groups discussing this, or similar problems.

Any help wpuld be most appreciated.
