[Yaesu] re ungluing plastic knobs

Has anyone had the experience of ungluing the metal inserts out of some =
plastic knobs without damaging the actual knobs. Is there a chemical =
that will work for this or should I be trying to use heat or ?  I am =
trying to switch the inserts to accomodate a different size of shaft.   =
Any help or suggestion on this would be most appreciated. =20
