Went to go see "The Hunted" wednesday. The movie was
OK, nothing to write home about, though. There was one
interesting part where Tommy Lee Jones was given a
hand held radio to use, and later he drops it, and the
camera does an extreme close up on it to show that it
is a FT50-can read the model number and VU transceiver
label on it. They even had it start beeping a little
while the camera was one it, to show up some feature I
guess.
I am guessing that Yaesu must have paid for this
advertisement, as the close up seemed too staged, and
the radio did not figure into any other part of the
plot. I saw a similar thing later in the movie when
the police were talking on a radio, and the camera
made sure that we saw that it said Motorola on the
microphone-nice and centered, and fixed for a moment.
Later we saw "Raytheon" written on some piece of
equipment on a boat-again nice and centered, and in
the camera view for quite a while.
Wonder who Yaesu was targeting with this ad. Figure
that there would be some hams watching this movie, but
that many? Seems to me that it would be better to go
after the FRS crowd, but that is hardly a FRS radio.
ANyway, will take ads for Amateur radio any way we can
get them. Maybe some non-ham will do an internet
search on FT50 and become interested.
