[Yaesu] Comments on: HF station on a budget

Before going the FT 902 route check out a FT-980. You can control it with
the FIF 232. They run between $400 and $600 USD mint. I have 2 which have
given me good service. One is converted to gen Tx too. Only hang up is
Yaesu reports they are running out of spare tramsformers (20 or so left) but
Peter Dahl can make one for a few $ more (and its better!)
If you can stretch the budget slightly the newer FT 920 is a good bet. The
Samlex 1223 is the same supply as the Yaesu 23A. This gives you 160 to 6,
mic, tuner, and PS. I like the 990 too
but with add ons its more than a stretch.
Outside of Yaesu there are many older rigs. Best of the best is the Icom
751A. Others include Kenwood (even some of the 570 pre G series.).
