W4RT offers a dual filter option for the FT-817.  It's $300 installed. 
Basically, they replace the stock filter with the Collins mechanical SSB
filter and install the CW filter.  That way you can have the best of
both worlds.  See http://www.w4rt.com

You really should check out the FT-817 reflector on Yahoo!Groups.  They
have an incredible archive of info on the rig, filters, antennas, after
market products, etc... and 4,400 members who can answer questions.
