Hello Jon,

Inrad filters have excellent shapefactor. And you have an huge choice of
filters for your FT-1000D (or other rigs).

For example my filter setup in the 1000D is:

2800 - 2100 - 500 - 250 Hz in both IF's.

The 2800 Hz filters provide an excellent and improved speech fidelity for
both received and transmitted (!!) signals. I have installed them in place
of the standard Yaesu 2400 Hz filters (one plug-in and one solder type).

The 2100 Hz filters are a very good compromise between readability in noise
and QRM and speech fidelity. After using this filters for quite a while I
may say that this bandwidth offers enough selectivity for most of the band
circumstances. Shapefactor of these 2100 Hz filters is 1.5! When you want
the optimum of SSB-bandwidth you may install the 1800 Hz filters.

The 500 filters I have are still from Yaesu. With all due respect good
filters, but I prefer the Inrad filters. George from Inrad has developed 500
Hz filters for the 1000D (and MP etc.). He did sent me the diagram of the
filter a few days ago. If you want I will be happy to send it to you.

The 250 Hz filters from Inrad give optimum selectivity for CW.

Inrad filters have a very good sound too. Even the 250 Hz filters produce
excellent sound without any noise or other unwanted effects.

I did buy some of the Inrad filters via the eHam.net classifieds for a very
reasonable price. It's just having a little bit luck to find these used
filters on the internet. Most of us will not sell them, unless we sell the
rig...

By the way, for CW-fans there is a very good alternative sold by Inrad:
1000 and 400 Hz! Very good shape factor too, of 1.6 and 1.7. I use the 1000
Hz filters in my Mark V during contest and the 400 Hz when conditions are
critical.

Bottom line: Inrad filters have excellent shapefactor, excellent sound and a
huge choice of bandwidths. Besides that George en Georgia from Inrad have
excellent and personal service with very fast delivery.
