Here's the key for decoding Yaesu serial numbers:

Position 1: last digit of the year in which the radio was produced.
   (yours = 9, or 1999)

Position 2: Determine the position of the letter in the alphabet
(c=3, d=4, e=5, etc) and then subtract 2. The result gives the month
in which the radio was manufactured.
   (yours is H which is the 8th letter in the alphabet;
    8 - 2 = 6; the 6th month is June)

Positions 3 and 4: The lot or run number.
   (yours is lot 24)

Positions 5 thru 8: The manufacturing sequence number of the radio.
   (yours is the 121st radio built in lot 24)

Also, I recently learned that Yaesu has had to recycle serial numbers
for the FT-1000D since it is over ten years old. The recycled numbers
have the letter "A" stamped on the serial number sticker following the
s/n itself.
