[Yaesu] ft 747 tuning encoder

hello all
 i have an ft747 , th etuning encoder is on the way out and needs
replacing ( the frequency jumps in random steps when you turn the tuning
dial), replacement is about =A320 or so , any ideas if it is possible to
open up the original unit and repair it? perhaps it is just dirt in the
micro switches? is there an optical tuning mod?
