Usually it means that something is wrong with the battery, causing it to
draw too much current. However with two different radios involved, it
sounds like like the NC-50 might have a problem.
One other thing comes to mind, though -- I've seen this this happen with
an FT-51 in an NC-50 and with an Icom W32A in a BC-119. If the radios
were turned on when the batteries expired, placing the radio in the
charger may cause it to draw more current for a short time than the
charger can provide (trying to charge a dead battery and power up the
radio at the same time). You might want to remove the batteries from the
radios and try charging them without the radios attached.
