[Yaesu] Info on wiring mics for the ft-847 ??

Yes, that's what I thought... Turner made quite a few 'amplified' mics that
contained a battery and a variable drive. Older ones ( the nice 'blue
retro-look' ones - the +2) had the control just behind the neck. The later
ones, which were called "+3" and were more rectangular (without the 'retro
look' of the +2) had the drive control mounted in the mic base just forward
of the neck. Some designed for CB SSB had an audio drive meter and even a
few slider controls - like an audio mixer panel.
-----
As a note, I did get my new Shure 450 wired up to my -847. Although the mic
is quite a few years old, it was virtually unused - even the cork feet under
the base were clean as a whistle. Thanks to those who responded:

Mic wire Plug Radio function
----------------------- ------- ---------------------
Green Mic return pin 7 Radio Mic Gnd
White Mic pin 8 Radio Mic
Red PTT sw Pin 6 Radio PTT
Black PTT sw Pin 5 Radio Ground
and the shields from the green/White wires folded under the clamp to ground
to the mic plug case.

The mic itself has 4 wires... with the Green & White microphone wires
shielded.
I also had better luck with the mic switch (under the base) set to Hi-Z...
It seemed to overdrive the audio just a bit at the default mic gain setting
on the ft-847 - but not enough to deviate on FM - so I lowered the mic gain
a few clicks..

Getting good audio reports on both FM and SSB (able to tickle the ALC) ...

73
Frank
