I just got my new FT-1500 today and I love it. It's got
all of the nice features of my FT2500M, but smaller. The
one thing that I don't like is the blue backlight--yeah,
not that I don't like the blue, but my car uses red backlight
for everything, so it won't fit in. I was looking at the
mods on te www.mods.dk site and I saw the handset blue led
mod. That got me to thinking about changing the LED in the
head unit to make it RED. A quick look at the schematic
and the driving circuit is a typical pseudo-constant current
type of design. Cool, drop in an different LED, noone should
mind. I looked at the part number of the exisiting LED and
stopped cold. (LEDs are a bit of a hobby for me, so I
recognized the part number) Its a 3mm *white* 60 degree
led--1.5cd. Hmmm, the LED isn't what's making the display
blue, there must be a filter in there. That's going to
make putting a red LED int here problematic.
So, What does everyone else think? Should I hack into this
thing or just learn to live with it? I'm leaning towards
the latter.
Cheers,
