If the rcv mutes and the xmit relay or switch is on, (does the XMIT
light come on?) sounds like either =
1) VCO is unlocking
2) xtal in hetrodyne unit is going bad or not starting
3) bad relay contact in DC or RF switching
4) possibly leaky diode or xstr in a xmit ckt not conducting properly.
Rule #1....CHECK YOUR VOLTAGES! always! Not just the 12v external but
your INTERNAL xmt voltages...make sure there is 8V or whatever it
is getting to the xmit ckts...get a copy of the svc manual if you
dont have a schematic with the voltages on it...but it should be
an easy fix...
I had a FT227R 2mtr rig that had a similar problem...turned out the
8V xmit regulator had a cold solder joint on it.....had to remove
one of the PCBs to get to it but the rig worked fine after that
(I still own it! since 1978!)_
