I happened to have the 756ProII, the 1000D and the Mark V. After nine years
FT-990 and three years 1000MP.
The receiver of the 1000D is the best. Its quietness and signal to noise
ratio are almost unbeatable. Almost all the setting are operated direct from
the front panel. This rig is very very solid and heavy. The ergonomics are
outstanding (very easy to operate and situated on the right place). It has a
lovely analogue sound; after many operating hours (e.g. contests) you will
not get tired at all. Power output between 200 and 230 Watts. I use the
1000D for SSB operation and as main receiver.
The Mark V has very good ergonomics too (e.g. rubberized (tuning) knobs).
The sound is analogue, but sounds different (less clear) from the 1000D. It
has a very extended menu (I have a spreadsheet for interested people), with
which many hours can be spend to optimize your rig! The DSP works well
enough. Class A is very useful for PSK31 and with a linear amplifier. I
prefer seperate power supplies like the FP-29. Power output between 180 and
200 Watts. The Mark V I use for CW and SSB in combination with the linear.
The 756ProII is very advanced and innovating. The twin passbandtuning,
display, bandscope, triple bandstacking and extended filterchoice are very
usable and function as expected! The menu is user friendly and easy to
operate. The rig is easy to carry. The ergonomics are not as good as the
1000D and Mark V. The ProII sounds more digital, but very clear. I use this
rig on 50 MHz, to scope the higher HF-bands and for digital modes.
It depends on your needs, the purposes you have in mind and your personal
taste which one of the three would be prefered. These rigs are all three of
very high quality. It really is a matter of taste and your needs.
Good luck and 73,
Hans Remeeus.
