To xmit AM on a FM rig involves an extensive modification AND
additional parts since high level AM usually needs 1/2 the RF output
in audio Watts to modulate 100% (IE a 20watt carrier radio needs
10 watts of AUDIO)...also the VCC of the final xstr will have to
be reduced as the modulation will push the voltage over the max
rated limits thus BLOWING the xstr (you have to reduce the VCC to
half...thus lowering the carrier power output)

It is NOT an easy task....and it is not recommended...

and of course it is not legal...

AM HTs for aircraft are available to buy as backup
