I see both AT and AT CAT models advertised, with a considerable
difference in prices. What's the difference and what do I have?

Hi Harry
I think there is some confusion here. The "CAT" after the model number
as in FT-900CAT indicates something different than the "CAT system
included" comment. In FT-900CAT the "C" means that the Collins
mechanical filter is installed, and the "AT" means the auto antenna tuner
is installed. The "CAT system included" statement refers to the computer
interface that Yaesu uses for several of it's models. All FT-900s are "CAT
system capable", but differ as to the use of filters and inclusion of the
antenna tuner. Your radio has the antenna tuner but not the Collins
mechanical filter in the front end. This is only a minor point unless you
plan to use the radio for some serious crowded band operating. The
Collins filter has somewhat higher ultimate rejection and a little flatter
passband which may slightly improve the audio in both transmit and
receive. It's very minor though.
