Don't know about the 728, but the 840 has its pros and cons. Pros include
nice package, all bands, general coverage receive, nice digital dial, smooth
tuning touch, decent mix of needed features, good mobile SSB radio, dual
band stacking VFO registers. Cons include non-QSK, no built in keyer, SWR
meter, antenna tuner, digital filter, power supply, not first line receiver,
added cost of AM and CW filters and FM module. The 840 is a good radio for
the price, but there has to be several things compromised to get the price
down. Hope this is of interest.
