[Yaesu] background noise

Andy:
Check the RJ style of mic connector that plugs into the back of your
MD-100 desk microphone. I had the same problem here with a FT-1000 MP V that
I was checking for a friend. I had to recrimp the RJ (telephone style)
connector on the mic cord at the microphone end and it now works very well.
Yaesu has had problems for many years with that style of mic cord on their
commercial land mobile radios. I would replace that RJ connector with a
regular 8 pin mic connector as used at the other end of the mic cord (radio
end) as the 8 pin mic connector on the microphone is wired in parallel with
the RJ jack.
Good luck and best of 73's from Fern VE7GZ
