[Yaesu] FT-100 Excessive SWR

Some FT-100 owners have had trouble tuning the mobile antenna designed for
the FT-100 until they added some coax length. I suggest adding different
lengths of coax to see if it makes a difference. Try 10, 20, and 30 ft
lengths.

Good luck!

Subject:	[Yaesu] FT-100 Excessive SWR

Looks like my FT-100 needs to return home to Cerritos. On ten meters
through a tuner into a dummy load the high SWR icon appears. I can not
adjust the SWR via the tuner, even when the power setting is on 5 (~5
watts).
The tuner and associated cables test good with a VOM. If I switch to an
older Kenwood rig or a friend's FT-817 and keep everything else the same,
I can adjust the SWR. Doesn't look like my tuner or cable is the
problem.
Never attempted adjusting with an antenna connected.

Signal strength of a local 2 meter repeater (~4 miles away) & NWS
decrease as
the rig heats up. Yes, the fans do not run. Usually I use the rig for
HF, but I
feel this also needs addressed by Yaesu.

Fortunately, it's under warranty. My FT-100 was purchased in June 2001.
Its
serial number is 9J100xxx. What is the average turn around time for
warranty
repairs? Has anyone some pointers to possibly accelerate the process?
Should
I ask them to do all the mods and updates? Or do they do the mods &
updates without
asking?
