I know that this question has probably been beat to
death, but I am new to the reflector, so would
appreciate any information on this comparison. I am
looking to get a 160m to 70cm rig to use as my main
rig. I do more CW than SSB on HF, but am also active
on 6, 2, and 432. I have done a great deal of
contesting on HF, but have become burnt out on it, so
am not interested in a contest rig. On HF will be
mainly chasing DX, trying to add to my total of 297
countries worked. will do some VHF contesting trying
to catch new grid squares.
It seems like everyone prefers the 847 over the FT100,
and I am wondering why. From the QST reviews, the
FT100 appears to have a much better receiver,
especially on HF. Is this everyones experience, or
are the numbers in the reviews missing something? Now
I realize that the 847 is less menu driven-meaning
easier to operate, but I am looking more for operating
quality, not operating ease.
Also, what serial number do I want to look for in the
FT100D? I know that yaesu have been doing the
grounding mod and the fan mod in the new radios, so
what serial number will mean that they have those mods
done?
