Jamie,
You are right about eh computer power supplies.
They CHEAP & DIRTY. No question, the
manufacturers put the minimum parts into them.
But, I am sure that yaesu does not make nearly
as many units as there are PC power supplies.
A good all band ham radio cost about 3 times
the cost of a good computer. I think that adding
the protection in the radio's power supply, the
cost to the manufactures could not be more
than $10 and the cost to the user about $40.
HP and Tek have been the high price leaders in
electronic instruments. They are reliable and
people bought them.
Anyhow, I think that Yaesu and other should provide
some 'safety' features in their designs.
