Well put , Brian. The format and the context of any contemplated messages
is important. Nobody needs to fly off the handle with these gentlemen -
just state your case, thoughtfully.

Japanese companies are uniquely sensitive to outside criticism of their
products. Criticism sent to the President of the company can have a
significant impact, especially if you point out that the strongest
supporters of the company are having difficulties.

What makes it effective is if it is respectful and polite in tone (not wild
and angry) and if there are specific details about the shortcomings.

But if you send it to the President, everybody in the organization will be
aware of it.

Just recognize the Japanese economy is in shambles right now, exports are
not flying high and the company is operating, as all Japanese companies are,
under very serious constraints. But if we all stress Q/A and repair
responsiveness as the two major themes, then it could help us and help the
company. Everybody wins and everybody walks away better off.

But we have to do it right. No company in its right mind wants to offend or
disappoint customers. Yaesu is going through integration issues and may be
re-thinking the whole amateur market right now --- who knows? That is why
it is important that we show we are supporters of the company and not some
angry mob.

I ran US operations for one of the largest companies in Japan for a number
of years which is where this perspective comes from. But someone needs to
get the proper name and address of the President of the company. They do not
generally have CEOs and Chairmen are often out of the loop.
