I have the newer FT980 and most of this era Yaesu's has a master oscillator
on say 30Mhz.  Those trimmers and associated components
go bad causing what you found.  I also noted that a Cber had gotten hold of
it.   probably modified the 10 meters to CB and changed the components that
mix the freq.  Putting those crystals back in where did you find it reading?
