    If you read the QST Product review of the radio , The hiss is mention
there. You must has the digital filter off to here it. The radio has a low
pass filter after the detector to roll off the receiver  high frequency
audio to help.  You can hear the rolloff when listening on AM to short-wave
stations. The receiver is very muted,  also mention in the QST report. I own
this radio , so I am only stating facts. And have compare it to my Many
other radios,  it fall's way short. And there's nothing wrong with mine. My
friend's radio are all the same. You just have to know what your listening
for & have acute hearing. Kind of like a cardiologist the listen to a
sounds of you heart thru a stethoscope..... Believe me it's there.       Get
a copy off the QST product report if you doubt it !!
