[Yaesu] FT-990 Questions

Have had an FT-990 for about four years, main base station rig, not for sale.
I have full complement of stock Yaesu filters, only wish I had bought INRAD
for the extra slots. I use a Timewave DS-59Y in the SP-6 speaker, and like the
combination. I have made one mod, a single resistor on the RF board to enable
power to be reduced to QRP <5 watt levels. Stock 990 minimum power is about
10 watts, needed to activate the antenna tuner. Radio had been great, one minor
repair, thermistor failed and caused the fan to run all the time, so I had to
get it fixed. Only one problem with the radio, there is a bit on noise in the
IF/audio, the "digital" filter cleans most but not all, the DSP unit get the
rest. The specs of the 990 is a lot better than many newer radios and the radio
is a bargain in the $750 range, depending upon condition and filters. Hope this
is of interest.
