N6ZE: 135 Cm SPRING 2015 SPRINT
20 QSOs; 4 GRIDS WORKED FROM DM04qb
SCORE = 22 X 4 = 80 POINTS (1296 km Total Distance)
Soapbox:
N6ZE operated for 1.25 hours from a ridge in the Santa Monica Mountains (CA). Due to a passing weather system, conditions were not particularly good. QSOs were made with 13 Ventura County (CA) stations: including members of the Ventura Co. RACES/ACS group; Ventura Co. Amateur Radio Society (VCARS) & Conejo Valley Amateur Radio Club (CVARC). Many thanks to those who got ‘on the air’ for a while!
Best DX (242 km) was K6VCR, atop Mt. Laguna to the East of San Diego; closest QSO (23.2 km) was with N6VI in Chatsworth. Most Northerly QSO (205.4 km) was with W6WE in Nipomo, CA. The loudest signal noted was KM6B who operated from the Moorpark (CA) Emergency Operations Center. About 7 of the stations I contacted used SSB while the rest used FM.I have supported the VHF/UHF SPRINT Program for many years and I passionately encourage others, particularly HFers & “Newbies”, to try VHF/UHF communicating without resorting to the use of repeaters.
