Jim, I've had excellent results with DB6NT transverters 
in both fixed and rover service.  They are very reliable.

The 1296 model is the MKU 13G3.  On the current 
online price list, it sells for EU 425 fully built and tested.
You can buy directly from Kuhne, with delivery by air 
within two days or within two weeks by less expensive 
methods.

There's also a complete desk-top 18-watt transverter 
for 1296 in a nice case with meters built in.  That's 
EU 1335.  It's for a fixed station where you can live 
with some feedline loss going up from the shack to an 
antenna.

Because I mount the transverters and amps in a box 
at the antennas, I use the MKU 13G3 and similar 
units for 2.3, 3.4, 5.7 and 10 GHz.
