K7XC 6M KW Rover - Preliminary Follow up report... 4PM June 6th 2011 - HOME
AT LAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First, I want to thank all of you who spent to time to work me from the
various grids on the various modes. I admit to sumbitting to the pressures
of the moment and being a bit gruff at few people who asked innocent
questions at the WRONG time... but whats life w/o a little bit of adversary
thrown in... It was nothing personal.
Second, I want to express HUGE Kudo's to Pat - WX7M... for it was his truck
and equipment that made the trip possible. That's not to say operating the
beast over 1543 miles thru 18 different grids over 5 days (Setting up the
yagi in 8 of them) was a cake walk either.
Third, Having the IC-PW1 along, pumping a solid 1KW out whenever I was
stopped and running the yagi (atop a 25' tall Mil surplus mast) was a thing
of pure joy! Some of the signals were just increadible!!
Fourth, WHO TURNED OFF THE Es!?!?!?!?!? I think I had a total of 2 hours of
Es over the 5 days... thats it 2 hours!!! If it wasnt for a pleathera of
seemingly enending rocks the trip would have been very boring indeed! My
experiment Sunday of running FSK441A while MOBILE @100W into a KQ loop at 12
feet was very successful. As its a high angle radiator, it was very easy to
work your avg 100W station between 250 and 600 Miles and those that are
larger out to almost 1000 Miles. All on the loop while gentry traveling the
deserted byways of central NV at a casual 75 MPH.
There is much more to share but I am beat to a pulp and need to jump in the
shower and take it easy a few days after that grueling 5 day marathon.
73s de Tim - K7XC - Safelt back in DM09nm... sk
PS: WIND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Never seen so much wind!!!!!!!!! Blecccchh! The
operator hears his lady arrive home with the warm comfort food he asked for
and leaps to be with her and her tasty treats!
