Bruce,
When you have an opportunity, you should come down to Laguna Beach and I'll 
show you how to raise a twenty-six foot mast with a 17 foot, 25 element 
Yagi and 35 feet of LMR600f in winds equal to or esceeding exceeding 20 mph 
at temperatures in the mid-forty's.  It's a trick I perform at least a 
dozen times each year on Thursday evenings for a net I execute.  The 
remaining 350 times each year, the wind isn't as vigorous and the 
temperatures less inclimate.
Of course I make my own tripods and Skypole masts..
