What an increadible morning here in DM09nm!!!! I Finally worked Europe
(CT1HZE and CT1EEB)!! Details Follow...
The band opened early, first sigs popping in just before 7 am.
Innocently enough my log this morning began with...
WA4VUT EM50 1413z 50 ssb 59
N7KA DM65 1416Z
KY5Q DM65 1428Z
AA0MZ EM29 1433Z
W5AP EM17 1437Z
W5LEO EM60 1509Z
KD0AGX EM29 1521Z
W4UDH EM52 1522Z
Then I logged into the ON4KST 50 Mhz Region 2 chat page and saw that CT1 was
working well into W7. Soooo... I tuned the radio to 50.102.06 and waited..
Within 3 minutes I began to hear CT1HZE with a good clean tone but with
rapid fluttery QSB, signals all over the place in strength... way up and
then way down... At 1532Z he popped out of the noise 559 for roughly 3
minutes and I worked him 559 both ways!!!!! He then faded rapidly but
remained audible...
(That single contact made the entire late winter and early spring effort to
rebuild the antenna and get it back in the air after the tower trailer it
normally sits atop blew over in heavy winds back in Nov 09) worth it!
I ran around the house screaming YESSSSSSSSSSS! Finally Europe after all
these years (20+) of working 6M DX. His signal became louder & more stable,
so I found a clear freq (50.094) and started calling CQ EU. Soon after
CT1EEB is heard calling me and worked at 1623Z! WOW! A New continent, New
country and 2 new grids! That kind of trifecta dont happen every day!
Further CQs, while reported loud into CT1 via the ON4KST chat page, prove
fruitless while CT1HZE continues to work stations in W7 land while slowly
building in strength.
I stop shaking long enough to remember to find my cell phone and call WX7M
in DM08 who promptly works him for his first EU ever on 6M. Then after 3
wrong numbers I leave a message for Tom - K5RC who also works him for his
first EU from NV.... WOW!
CT1HZE was heard well for another 30 minutes before finally fading into the
noise around 1730Z.... With this contact I have now worked CT1HZE on all
bands
from 160M through 6M ! WOW! And to think, my goal when I woke up this
morning was to simply finish integrating some military surplus solid state
amplifier
modules for 222 and 432 to use in the June contest this coming weekend!
My log for the two EU contacts:
CT1HZE IM57 559 1535Z 6/10/10 50 CW
CT1EEB IN50 539 1623Z 6/10/10 50 CW
K7XC Station: IC-746 w/350 Hz CW filter, 80W output, Homebrew 6 ele (31 foot
boom) up 40' atop AB-577 Tower.
As I write this report I am still in shock! Europe! on 6M! Finally
!\!!!!!!!!!
and the day is not over... with the June VHF contest is just 2 days away!
Lets see, so far this past week on 50 Mhz... I had a evening of running JA's
(28 of them in 33 Mins), and last night working Gene KL7/KB7Q portable
in BP40, and today Working two CT1's with the band open to EU for over
a hr afterwards....
Life IS Good!
