Although I am a Member of IEEE, my on-line privileges do not give me access to some of the IEEE on-line Library.

The article abstract below was given to me by the son of Dr. Carl Wiley (sk), President of Wiley Electronics. According to Les Wiley, Dr. Wiley's son, "Carl Wiley and Dr. Alan Love devised an antenna feed of a new design that allowed for a radiometer antenna with a circular cross section. The antenna was large and was scanned by moving the antenna feed instead of the antenna itself. Carl realized their system could be modified to make a very large steerable radio telescope that pointed at the sky. Think of it as a Palomar Observatory 200 inch telescope for Radio Astronomers"

I would very much like to get a pdf of the article or photocopy of pages 94 - 97.

Abstract (of article)
The National Astronomy and Ionosphere Center (NAIC), operated by Cornell University for the National Science Foundation, has its laboratory at Arecibo in Puerto Rico. The observatory's main instrument is a radio/radar telescope that utilizes a giant reflector antenna 1,000 feet in diameter, the largest in the world by considerable margin. A 40th anniversary celebration of the 1963 inauguration of this observatory was held at the site in Puerto Rico on November 1, 2003. This paper discusses the development of the said antenna, its characteristics and the upgrading of the system. The paper includes a discussion of what transpired during the said anniversary celebration. <<<<<<<
