Yes, with JT65, ranges out to 1200 miles should be quite possible.  I had been 
using JT65A for such D layer scatter work (in addition to 6m EME), but I got a 
chance to visit with KS7DX, KS7S and W6OUU at the 6m BBQ in Austin last month, and 
they informed me that they find JT65B (only 1 dB less sensitive) works better for 
grid hopping because it is less prone to disruption by the odd random meteors that 
still are often encountered on 6m even during the daytime or evening.
