As far as I know Garmin is the only GPS manufacturer to support Maidenhead
grids. My 60cs display's them fine.

(REPRISE!)

About a year ago, Garmin gave me the same answer, essentially, as the one
you recieved. They told me that most all the hiking/outdoor GPS models have
Maidenhead grids available in their built-in system, but that ALL the
automotive GPS units (like the nuvi line) do not. I did not ask them about
the possiblity of inputing the maidenhead info into the automotive units.
Why they didn't bother to put in alternative (maidenhead , and others)
readouts in the auto units is a good question.

So, right now, if roving, I use 2 GPS's on the dash: for the maps, a nuvi
760, and for grids, my old GPSIII, or Etrex Vista.
It's kind of a pain in the neck with 2 set of cords. If there is a Garmin
nuvi or other automotive type that is 6 digit grid capable, I sure would
like to know about it.
Other than that issue, Garmin has been a great product.

Thanks & 73

Hello All:

I communicated with Garmin's Product Support People within the past week and

this is what they say:

"Actually all Garman outdoor mapping handheld units will display in
Maidenhead position format."

"Only the Garmin Nuvi 500 and 550 will allow for input of Maidenhead Locator

data."

I have looked through on-line manuals for a number of their current units
and do NOT find any references to Maidenhead Grid Locators.
Has anyone on these reflectors been using the Nuvi 500, Nuvi 550, or current

outdoor mapping handhelds and had any success in using Maidenhead Grid
Locators?

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?clD=145? is Garmin's current on-line
catalog.

The only place which appears to carry the Nuvi 500 or 550? is Amazon.com at
~$260.
